5 Reasons Why You Need To Indulge In Face Steaming

Nourish Mantra

Who doesn't love a pamper session at the salon? However, with facial steaming, you can reap the same benefits of an expensive spa session of facial from the comfort of your home and on a budget. Relaxing and detoxifying, face steaming as a beauty treatment has been around for a while. The idea perhaps goes back as long as the Greek and Roman times. If you're someone with oily skin and wonder how to treat acne-prone skin, then face steaming is your answer. Face steaming unclogs your pores and improves blood circulation, resulting in younger and healthier-looking skin free from acne and pimples. After facial steam, your skin also absorbs beauty and acne-prone skin products better.

Before you indulge in some facial steaming, it is always a good idea to wash your face with an acne-prone skin face wash or acne-prone skin cleanser such as our Ratrani Moroccan Lava Clay Cleanser. After the steaming session, you can take things up a notch with our Holy Basil & Neem Vardaan Mud Mask, which does a great job of pulling out the remaining dirt and toxins. Experts also suggest supplementing the moisture with an acne-prone skin serum and locking it in with some of the best moisturizers for acne-prone skin. Our Urban Rani Facial Serum is one the best serums for acne-prone skin, and we highly recommend it. Still not convinced about including face steaming in your skincare routine?

Here are our top 5 reasons why you should steam your face at least once or twice a week.

1. Clears clogged pores

Using steam on your face relaxes and opens up your pores, and helps loosen any build-up of dirt, sebum, or face products. It also softens the blackheads and whiteheads, making it easy to get rid of them.

2. Keeps acne at bay

When sebum or excess oil is trapped beneath the skin's surface, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, aggravating skin breakouts. This is why facial steaming is especially beneficial for people prone to acne. The heat from the steam loosens dirt and debris from clogged pores, which is the leading cause of acne breakouts.

3. Boosts circulation

The warm steam leads to an increase in perspiration which further dilates blood vessels and increases circulation. This boost of blood flow nourishes the skin and gives it a natural, healthy glow. The increased blood flow also promotes collagen and elastin production, resulting in younger-looking skin.

4Hydrates and moisturizes

Face steaming opens your pores and boots the production of natural oils that helps keep your skin hydrated and moisturized

5. Improves product absorption

Face steaming cleans and opens your pores which boosts the absorption of beneficial ingredients present in your facial care beauty products. The hot steam improves your skin's permeability, ensuring all the goodness from authentic ayurvedic skincare products is effectively absorbed by your skin.

HOW TO STEAM YOUR FACE

Your face must be clean and free of any face products or makeup before facial steaming. So, make sure to wash and cleanse your skin thoroughly with a face wash for acne. During the steam, keep your eyes closed as you do not want to irritate them. Also, it is always a good idea to tie your hair as you don't want strands of hair to hinder the process in any way.

And remember, you don't always need fancy equipment to enjoy the benefits of facial steaming. There are many ways in which you can steam your face, and if you don't have a facial steamer lying around, there's always D.I.Y.

  • Hot bowl of water

The simplest way to enjoy facial steam is over a bowl of hot, steaming water. Sit comfortably in front of the bowl, lean in, and cover your head with a towel to keep the steam contained. Do this for 10-15 minutes, taking breaks in between to cool off. You can also add a few drops of essential oils or even green tea to the water for that extra kick.

  • Hot towel

Another method is using a hot towel. For this, you need to soak a clean towel in hot water for a couple of minutes. Wring the towel out and let it cool a little before you apply it to your face. Dab your face with the warm, damp towel for up to 5-10 minutes, and you're done!

  • Facial Steamer

Place the steamer on a table and fill it up with water as instructed. Plug the steamer in and sit comfortably in front of it so that the steam is directed at your face; lean over the stream and, if needed, cover your head with a towel. Sit like this for 2-3 minutes, take a break and then repeat 3-4 times, depending on your skin's tolerance.

AFTERCARE

Rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat dry. Use soft, fluffy towels, and do not rub aggressively, as after steaming, your skin is extra sensitive. Since your pores are now open, this would be an excellent time to apply a mud mask and then layer in the rest of your skincare.

Enriched with the goodness of Tulsi and Neem leaves, our Holy Basil & Neem Vardaan Mud Mask purifies skin from toxins and deeply nourishes it. Leave the mask on till fully dry, and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

After this, take a few drops of our Urban Rani Facial Serum and gently massage onto your face and neck in a circular motion. Like all our other natural skincare products for glowing skin, this mud mask and facial serum is formulated without parabens or sulfates and is vegan and cruelty-free. Finish off with a moisturizer to seal in the hydration.
